National surveillance of occupational blood exposure

How to enroll for the surveillance ?

Participation happens on a voluntary base and free of charge. The minimal participation period is one year without interruption. The surveillance period can start on the first day of every month (start on 1 June 2003). Each acute care hospital in Belgium can enrol using a registration form with indication of the surveillance period (only available in French and Dutch).

*Non-acute care hospitals (Nursing homes, psychiatric hospitals, etc) can enrol in the surveillance as well. The results of these institutions will not be included in the national report. They can send their data to the IPH for an individual feedback (without benchmarking).

The law of 12/08/1992 on the protection of the privacy is applicable to this data collection. An informative letter (only available in French and Dutch) on this matter will be sent to the general director of the hospital with the guarantee of a confidential treatment of the data by the IPH and an explanation of the objectives of the surveillance. The enclosed response form has to be sent back after having been signed by the director.

The IPH sends the surveillance protocol and software upon reception of both forms; the registration form and the signed letter.

Important: Do not forget to fill out your NSIH code, the name of your institution and commune, personal coordinates of the contact person on the registration form before sending it to the IPH by regular mail or fax +32 2 642 54 10 (to Eva Leens).
